Veterans Day Reflections

By Partha-sarathi Dasa

Here in America, we celebrate Veterans Day. This is a day that the United States honors and thanks the members of our armed forces for all the sacrifices they have made. The President lays flowers on Soldiers' graves and politicans give speeches.  Schools are closed on and stress is given to the importance of selfless service and dedication to defending the freedom of the United States. It is a day the quiet heros are glorified.

I was glad when the wobbly, noisy little plane finally touched the ground and when I reached Bloemfontein, the Capitol of what was once known as the “Orange Free State”, the home of the dutch “Boer”.

Personal dealings by HH Kadamba Kanana Swami

Personal Dealings

In most Catholic monasteries all the monks have white hair (if they have hair!), nobody is young, everybody is over 70 and yes, when one dies then that's one less in the monastery and they are just waiting until the day will come that the last two will be there and then one will die and then there will be one left, and then that one will die and then there will be no more monastery! There are many such Catholic monasteries. We sometimes buy them and make them into temples.

So how sincere are we really? That is the question. And we should not so easily accept that we are sincere but rather we should see that we fall short in sincerity and that we should deepen our sincerity, that we should in other words, increase our commitment, because sincerity is measured in the commitment that we make—commitment that we make in sadhana and in service. It is that to which we must come to.

Jaya Srila Prabhupada!

Jaya Prabhupada!

Somehow or other we are here—how is it that we became interested in Krishna consciousness? That may be a question that comes to mind and we rest assured know that it is to none of our credit—not at all!We say, "No, no but I was spiritually inclined!"

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR KIRTANA IN THE ISKCON RELIGION. by Jayadvaita Swami

10 Commandments for Kirtana
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR KIRTANA IN THE ISKCON RELIGION. by Jayadvaita Swami

1. Thou shalt chant as many tunes as thou canst think of.

2. Thou shalt not chant any one tune for more than three minutes.

3. Thou shalt not chant the morning tune in the morning. Or if thou start
with it thou shalt quickly switch to something else.

4. Thou shalt start fast, speed up, speed up more, then stop and start all
over again. The more times the better.

Scared from the War

I boarded the flight from JFK to LAX, and hoped to catch up on some rest. As I looked for my seat I noticed the man sitting next to me was an amputee. I sat down and made some small talk with him. It turned out he lost his legs to a roadside blast in Iraq. I explained to him that I was a soldier also and showed my id card. He asked if I saw anything crazy there. "My friend, too much!" is what i responded. He looked down and with a sad expression explained how now he drank all the time and was very depressed.

From Bhakta Andrew

Wow…
..Iraq makes being a devotee easy at times, I must agree.  Fewer distractions,
any time while you are sitting around is a good time to chant, ample time to
read Srila Prabhupada’s books…
..But at the same time, I miss Devotee association, honoring Prasadm, going to
the Temple, etc., etc., etc.  I understand your point of view entirely.
As far as the billboard, Kali Yuga is truly terrible.  While in a hide site
a few days ago with one of our sniper teams, I watched 2 young Iraqi boys throw
