Escher-themed nurseries? Even four-month-olds can recognize impossible objects

“Impossible objects” like the etchings of M.C. Escher have fascinated adults for centuries. You can’t help but stare and wonder at a drawing like this, which seems to defy the laws of nature:

The two pictures below are identical, regardless of how your mind interprets them. Cover one up at a time and look at them separately and you will see this is true. Take out your ruler and measure the margins around the tower within the image. You can verify they are the same.
