Technical Trouble

Hare Krishna, please accept my humble apologies.

I just noticed that our front page doesn't render properly in Internet Explorer 7, and perhaps other versions of that browser, too. Unfortunately most of our readers still are using it. (Did I mention that Firefox 3 and are much better?)

I'm aware that most of you won't change your browsing habits because I say so, or to be able to see our front page in it's full glory; I'll have to fix whatever needs fixing to make it display properly in Microsoft browsers, too.

I'm quite busy just now with several other things, so this may take a few days. Until then you (IE-7 users) might want to use namahatta.org/en/node as starting page for our site, a listing of new articles without e-books, imported blogs, etc.

Another thing I'd like to bring to your attention—again—is that I'm still blocking large chunks of the internet, especially from China, Taiwan, Hongkong, Russia, and some Eastern European countries. A lot of spam bots come from these places, trying to plaster our site with obnoxious ads, trying my patience, and wasting our bandwdith.

If you encounter an unpleasant error, like "Access Forbidden" trying to visit our site, please write to me immediately (phani@namahatta.org). If possible state your IP number, or the internet provider you were using at that time; else your geographical location.

We had the same problem at

We had the same problem at work with our new homepage. I tried to tell my boss that we should just put a note (like your post) on our homepage directing people to download Firefox.....but for some reason she didn't go for it.....

I've never heard of Opera before. I'm going to have to check that out.

Hare Krishna

that's expecting too much, i'm afraid...

...for people to change their browsing habits because our websites don't agree with internet explorer--never mind that other browsers are more secure, don't cost anything, and offer more versatility via add-ons that make using the internet easier and more productive.

most people don't spend the whole day in front of their computers and use whatever software happens to be installed--mostly microsoft windows these days. eventually the MS imperium will come to an end, of course, but whether we'll see this happen or our kids, or whether 'civilization as we know it' will blow over before that, i don't know.

for now i'm afraid we have to deal with the fact that, if we want to reach as many readers as possible, we'll have to accomodate internet explorer. you find laments about this in all tech-blogs dealing with web design and programming, but what to do...

ys phani.
