Extinguish the Shackles of Fiery Sex Life

When one is Krishna conscious, he gets more and more happiness by discharging duties for Krishna. Such a person spits on sense gratification, especially that of sexual enjoyment. An experienced, advanced devotee is no longer interested in sex life. The strong desire for sex can be subdued only by advancement in Krishna cnsciousness.

“Everything is so surrea l… As the senses flash before me … I see the mirror, but I am unable to see my reflection for the dust … ‘Flash’ I see the womb and I know it covers the embryo … ‘Flash’ I see the opposite sex … a feeling of heat burns, there is smoke and that’s how I know there is fire … ‘Flash’ I see Krishna and I awake from my nightmare.”

What does my dream mean, where does it come from and why is the flash of the opposite sex so intense that it stands above the others? These questions and many more roll through my mind like marbles in a whirlwind. Fortunately, there is a way to stop the whirlwind and collect my marbles, but in order to do this I must first understand why my marbles have tumbled from me.

Losing one’s marbles comes from the deep attachment to sex life. Sex life is able to shackle one’s spirit in a material body when they are not properly engaged in Krishna consciousness. When sex life burns like fire it is due to the fact that the fuel of lusty intelligence influences the spirit soul to acquire a false ego. This false ego is the central core of the material man’s body that is individualized by working through a material mental vehicle. We must abandon this vehicle. Just as the fire is covered by smoke, the soul is covered by the material body. And while the soul is within this material body without the proper Krishna consciousness, we become animalistic men that are attached to the materialistic way of life and our only pleasure is sexual intercourse.

To refrain from sex life we must start by cleansing the mirror of the mind through chanting the holy name of Krishna. This is the best process, a spiritual method. Though it may take many spiritual methods to cleanse the mirror of the mind, chanting leads the way.

We may try to enjoy sex life in a regulated manner, but even legitimate sex involves so many difficulties. One is the fact that a woman becomes pregnant and suffers for nine months, and at the time of delivery there can be great danger. Unless a person understands desire he/she may fall victim to the shackles of disobedience. One must cleanse the material desire of sex, along with other material attachments, and replace it with the spiritual desire for Krishna consciousness. When we become Krishna conscious we leave behind the embryo that is covered by the womb.

We as living entities are minute samples of the Supreme Lord Krishna, therefore we have an urge for seeking happiness in diverse ways. But we must beware of false happiness through sex life which is the ultimate enemy due to the fact that it shackles us to the material world. Sex life will land us in the punishment of constantly being placed back into the material world for disobedience.

When we understand that we are not these bodies, but rather parts and parcels of Krishna, it will allow us to understand that human life is meant for understanding spiritual reality and preparing ourselves for being transferred to that reality. Human life is not meant for remaining here in the material world where we are shackled by sex life.

Thus, extinguish the shackles of fiery sex life by obeying the laws of Krishna and let the sweet nectar of the maha-mantra cleanse your spirit to end the burning of sex life.
